Training

Southdown Divers are part of the British Sub Aqua Club, which is the largest diver training organisation in the UK. BSAC is considered to be one of the most thorough training organisations for diving worldwide. Once you have completed the first course, Ocean Diver, you will be given a qualification card which will allow allow you to dive in the UK and on holidays abroad!

If you have never dived before and wonder what the experience is like you can have a go in the swimming pool. This can be easily arranged by contacting us.

Training

As a BSAC club we offer BSAC training and qualifications; which are respected around the world. Training is free once you have joined the club and payed BSAC fees. All diving training courses are delivered by our qualified instructors and assistant instructors over a series of weekly evening sessions. Diving skills are taught progressively – each new experience built upon, step-by-step. You will develop your diving skills with theory lessons, dry practical sessions and diving in the safe confines of a swimming pool before progressing to open water dives. This combination of theory, pool sessions, open water skills and continual technique practice enables you to develop your diving in a safe and enjoyable way. Our Club pool is 22 metres (approx 72 ft) long, with a maximum depth of 3.5 metres (approx 11.5 ft). Members use the pool for training, swimming, testing equipment and to practice diving skills.

Equipment

You will need a certain amount of personal equipment to start off with – mask and fins for example. The rest of your equipment the club can lend you when you are in the early stages of training. As you progress you will want to acquire your own gear to suit your diving needs.

Conversion courses

If you have trained with another organisation, PADI for example, these can be translated into BSAC qualifications, sometimes with a short conversion course. If you are a PADI Open/Advanced Open Water you would cross-over to BSAC as an Ocean Diver, a PADI Rescue Diver is equivalent to a BSAC Sports Diver, or if you are a PADI Divemaster you would cross-over as a BSAC Dive Leader.
